What are Benchmarks and How Do I Create Benchmark Data?

Benchmark data refers to a set of reference values used to compare and evaluate the performance or outcomes of the survey against established standards or averages.

A benchmark is a standard or point of reference against which things may be compared or assessed.

Benchmarking is the act of comparing your data, typically with aggregated industry data provided by other companies who share theirs. Benchmarking can provide:
  • Valuable context
  • Help to set meaningful targets
  • Gain insight into industry trends for your business
  • Determine how your business is doing compared to its competition
By distributing the same survey over time you can begin to create your benchmarks. Once your survey has response data, create a chart and use the responses to the demographic questions, departments, and participants to filter the data into what you understand the benchmark criteria to be.  See this article to understand the chart framework, and how to filter your data to display benchmark criteria, and then save a benchmark for later comparison.
